1. How to take the online course:

When taking our online course, you have complete access to all the study material free of charge. You will be asked to create a user name and password prior to taking the final exam. Having a user name allows you to access the course material at any time in the future, reprint a lost temporary certificate, or order a new wallet card. We do not collect names except as required to process your boating certificate (see our privacy policy).

  • The online course is a self-paced study program. You may leave the site and return at anytime to continue where you left off.

NASBLA now mandates all online courses require a minimum of 3-hours study/test taking time. Each page is timed. When time elapses, a “next page” arrow will appear indicating you may now proceed to the next page. There are practice assessments at the end of all chapters. All scored tests require an 80% or higher score. If an 80% or higher score is not achieved, the timers are reset and you must start again at the beginning.

2. Take the Practice Quizzes and when ready, the Final Exam

  • Make sure to take the quizzes at the end of each chapter as often as you like - free of charge.
  • Once you have mastered the quizzes, enter the "FINAL TEST" portion of the site. The final exam is a minimum of 60 multiple-choice questions. You need a score of 80% or better to pass.

3. Earn Your Boating Card

  • When you pass the final test, you will be able to pay for the course and immediately be able to print your officially recognized wallet-size boating education card (we recommend printing at least 2 copies). If needed, you can reprint the card by clicking Manage Certificates from the home page and entering your user name and password.
