Boat Operators' Course

The Tennessee Boat Operators' Course is great source of boating safety information and is officially accepted by the Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency (TWRA), approved National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) and recognized by the United States Coast Guard.

Passing this boating safety course meets the requirements for receiving your officially recognized Boater Education Card and shows proof of passing a NASBLA approved boating safety course. Contact your insurance agent for details on how you can receive a boat insurance premium discount of 5 –10% for passing this course!

We will not issue a Certificate to any Tennessean born after January 1, 1989. TWRA requires all persons born after January 1, 1989 to pass a proctored exam. In order to receive the TWRA-issued Boating Safety wallet card, all persons born after January 1, 1989 are required to purchase a $10, Type 600 boating exam permit from a licensing agent (a place where hunting and fishing licenses are sold for TWRA).
The receipt from this transaction will be the “ticket” to take a TWRA monitored exam. Log onto www.tnwildlife.org for locations, dates, and times of exams.

Getting Started: Read the study material, paying close attention to those topics that will keep you safe on the water and prevent you from getting a ticket! Make sure to take the end of chapter quizzes. And when you’re ready, take the 60-question practice exam. The practice exam is automatically graded, so you will be able to track your progress.

Once you’ve read the study material and mastered the quizzes and practice exam, enter the “Final Exam” portion of the site. The Final Exam is 60 multiple-choice questions (4 possible answers to each question).

When you successfully pass the final exam, you will be allowed to enter the payment section for receiving your proof of completion certificate
