New York State Boat Operators

Welcome to the New York State Boat Operator online boating safety course!

This Internet boating safety course has been approved by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) and recognized by the United States Coast Guard. This Internet boating safety course has been reviewed by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation, and found to contain NYS specific information as required by NASBLA.

NOTICE – this online boating safety course DOES NOT meet New York State’s legal requirements to operate a Personal Watercraft (PWC- jet ski, wave runner, etc.), or for persons under 18 years of age.  NYS allows only classroom training to meet legal operator education requirements for PWC and operators under 18 years of age. However, all other NYS boaters may take this boating safety course and are encouraged to learn about safer, legal boating.

As a bonus, passing our online boating safety course may allow you to receive a substantial discount on your boat insurance premiums (up to 10%). Contact your insurance agent for details!

Getting Started: Read the study material, paying close attention to those topics that will keep you safe on the water and prevent you from getting a ticket! Once you’ve read the study material and mastered the quizzes and practice exam, enter the "Final Exam" portion of the site. The Final Exam is 60 multiple-choice questions (4 possible answers to each question).
